Profile of the Prosecutors Office:

The Office was established on Nov. 1, 1962 with initial name of Taichung Branch, Taiwan High Prosecutors Office, which shared the same office building with Taichung Branch, Taiwan Supreme Court, both subordinate to the former Department of Justice and Administration. It had two subordinate offices of Taichung Prosecutors Office and Chiayi Prosecutors Office, whose jurisdiction covered the regions of Taichung County, Taichung City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Chiayi County and Yunlin County. In July 1964, Taiwan Yunlin District Prosecutors Office was established as a subordinate of our office. Taiwan Chiayi District Prosecutors Office has been subordinated to Tainan Branch, Taiwan High Prosecutors Office since Jan. 1966. In 1968, Changhua District Prosecutors Office was established and subordinated to our office. On July 1, 1980, the judgment and prosecution were separated, and the Department of Justice and Administration was renamed as Department of Justice, and our office is still subordinated to it. With the amendment of the Organization Law of Court on Dec. 24, 1989, the prosecution organs of all levels have been changed to Prosecutors Offices, and the chief of the Office were changed from Chief Prosecutor to Prosecutor General, and the name of our office was changed to Taichung Branch, Taiwan High Prosecutors Office. On May 1, 1990, Taiwan Yunlin District Prosecutors Office was subordinated to Tainan Branch, Taiwan High Prosecutors Office. On July 1, 1994, Taiwan Nantou District Prosecutors Office was established and subordinated to our office. On Jan. 5, 1997 Taiwan Miaoli District Prosecutors Office was established and has been subordinated to our office since Jan 1, 1998. So far the our office has four subordinates as offices in Taichung, Changhua, Nantou and Miaoli covering the regions of Taichung City, Changhua County, Nantou County and Miaoli County with an area of about 9,216 square kilometers and a population of over five million.
